LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a free 12-week physical activity program designed to get cancer survivors back on their feet.
Medical studies show that moderate exercise helps cancer survivors physically and mentally, improving their overall quality of life. The program also has shown to reduce the severity of side effects from therapy and treatment; improve energy levels; and boost self-esteem.
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a research-based program that offers people affected by cancer a safe and supportive environment to participate in physical and social activities focused on strengthening the whole person. With that focus, the program helps people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind, and body.

The Diabetes Prevention Program is a free yearlong program for those at risk for developing diabetes. The program focuses on small lifestyle changes in the form of eating healthy, engaging in regular exercise, and losing weight to reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
With group support and instruction from a trained leader, participants learn how to incorporate healthier eating, physical activity, problem-solving, and coping skills into their daily lives.

Moving for Better Balance is an evidence-based group exercise program, based on the principles of Tai Chi, that teaches eight movements modified especially for fall prevention.
The program works to improve balance, muscle strength, flexibility, and mobility to enhance overall physical health, which leads to better functioning in daily activities. Participants also might experience better mental health, reduced stress, improved memory and cognition, and increased self-esteem.
The class meets from 1 to 2 p.m. at the West Washington branch.

The Parkinson’s Disease exercise program is offered through a coordinated effort between Aurora Health Care and the Kettle Moraine YMCA. The program is designed specifically for those living with Parkinson’s disease and is led by a physical therapist and a personal trainer.
Participants spend 30 minutes on the treadmill or NuStep bike followed by 30 minutes of strength training and flexibility work. Classes meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm.
Yoga offers a way for those faced with cancer to regain control of their body and take an active part in their recovery and long-term health.
Movement through yoga poses, along with breathwork and meditation, can strengthen the immune system, rebuild bone density, manage lymphedema, decrease anxiety, reduce pain, and help the body repair the damage cause by cancer and conventional cancer treatments.
All abilities are welcome and accommodated. Participants should consult with their doctor before registering for the class.
The class is FREE and open to those undergoing treatment, as well as those who have completed treatment for cancer.
